Question:
II am a 38 year old female I have a few foot problems that I am very ashamed of. first I have discolored nails
second  I get really dry cracked heels third I have an ugly scar on the top of my right foot, I got that from scratching the hell out of it until it bled now the end results is a black ugly hard scar. the scar is my main thing I want to get rid if first.  I was thinking laser surgery or chemical peel what do you think?  I must improve this situation asap summer will be near and my hubby loves feet. He looks at other women's feet that makes me sad. please help me if you can.

Dr. Toe:

Well, your toenails are discolored - either from nail polish or nail fungus - so you can keep on painting them I suppose to help that part, although if it's a fungus - you can treat with a topical solution.  You need a really good lotion for extra dried skin and get a good skin (or callus) file - if you work at it every night, you should see good improvement after a month.  I'm a little concerned you say your scar is black - if it's a scar it should be white, unless you mean it's a scab, and if you're scratching that hard - it could be dry skin as well, or something worse.  As to what to do about the scar, I think the laser surgery option would be best - a chemical peel would not do anything to a scar.  As always, something like this would merit seeing a doctor.

 Question:

do you know that, jen garner, nastassja kinski, have both overlapping pinky toes?

Dr. Toe:  I do now.

Question:

Dear Dr. Toe,

I have callouses on my big toes that tend to peel toward the ball of the toe.  But because the skin on the ball of the toe is not calloused, the flaps of peeling skin can go quite deep and actually bleed.  Removing the callouses with a file doesn’t help because within days, the callouses are peeling again and things are worse because deeper layers of skin begin peeling toward the ball of my toe and they bleed faster.  Does this make sense?  Any advice you could provide would be great.

Thanks,
Carolyn

Dr. Toe:  Please see a doctor.  this is not something that could be diagnosed over the internet.

Dear Dr. Toe:

Both my small toes (5th toe) are red and very painful when putting on shoes.  Doctors said that it was from wearing tight shoes last year.  This year I have bought size bigger and wider.  They once again hurt and I cannot wear shoes only socks or barefeet.  The preasure from anything touching or squeezing hurts.  Is there any medication, treatment I can do to heal the small toes.  I have tried everything to heal them.

Thank you, Agnes

Dr. Toe:  Anytime you are experiencing anything that is characterized as "Very Painful" justifies seeing a doctor in person.  Sometimes, thinking things will heal on their own only makes  matters worse and they tend to fester and can get infected.  Catching it early can possibly be treated with ointments or other presription type medicines, while letting things go could result in serious surgeries.  Please see a doctor.  Thanks!

Dear A,

I would not lose hope.  I think it comes down to how much agrivation it is giving you and are you willing to research and get a good quality doctor behind your need for improvement.  ask around, try your local university, get good recomendations and visit 2 or 3 doctors before making a decision.  good luck. Dr. Toe

Well, Trina I would need more information to help you out.  Suggest you visit your local doctor for a recommendation.
